This week, K-3 students began our afternoon activities!! Preschool will be starting Show & Tell next week on Thursday!  For Show & Tell students should bring one item or small set (if there is more than one part to it) to show to the class and be able to tell us something about it. Teachers help guide the students and their classmates get to comment or ask questions about the item. 

        K-3 parents have already received their first request to sign up for Sign-Up Genius for volunteering to bring a hot lunch for the students. Next week, we will be sending the invitation for the Preschool parents to sign up, as well. We are finishing the Parties and Events volunteer list and will be emailing it to you as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please let us know.    

       We’ve had a small issue with students’ sandals, flip flops, and crocks either falling off or being taken off at school. Since the weather is turning cooler, please have your child(ren) wear sneakers or crocks with the back strap over the heel.    

       If anyone is available to wait for the bus students to arrive in the mornings, please let us know. We have a volunteer for Tues.-Thurs. but we could use a helper on Mon. and Fri., as well a back-up or two. All you have to do is drive over to the gate and wait until they get off the bus to make sure they walk over to the building safely. The bus has been arriving between 7:49 and 7:55, so it only requires you to wait maybe 10 minutes. Thanks!

      The weather is getting much more fall-like, so please feel free to send in a light jacket or sweater to keep at school. They aren’t just needed outside, sometimes the rooms can be too cool for some students as well. It helps having the option to put on a sweatshirt if you need it.

Mrs. Karen's Class Notes

       We had a full week in preschool and kindergarten.  The 3 year olds learned letter Aa and met Alexander Alligator and the 4 year olds learned letter Ii and met Itchy the Inchworm.  In kindergarten, we have learned all five vowels /a, e, i, o, u/.  The kids are working hard and doing an excellent job of writing each letter.  In math, we continue to work on numbers 1-10 and are writing number 2.  We learned all about the penny this week and that it is worth one cent.  In language, we worked on the concepts in/out, on/off, before/after, and rhyming words.  We started learning our next poem, Who Has Seen the Wind?  In art, both classes made apple trees.  Our Bible story was Noah and the Ark.  Thank you God for your promises!  We know we can trust you!

     Our Aa Bible verse this week was:  All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3.23

Mrs. Hansen's Class Notes

      Here are the spelling words for next week. 

• The 1st Grade words are: coat, goat, boat, bean, read, made, game, ride, to, and the which mostly teach the 2-vowel rule: when there are 2 vowels in a word, the 1st one says its name and the second one is silent.
• The 2nd Grade words are: rack, rake, lick, like, back, bake, socks, kick, rock, bikes, fake, make, of, what, and havewhich mostly practice the 1-vowel and the 2-vowel rules. 
• The 3rd Grade words are: choice, voice, rejoice, boiling, toiled, spoil, moisture, soy, annoy, decoy, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday which practice that oi is usually used in the middle of a word and oy is usually used at the end of a word. They also have days of the week. 3rd grade spelling has vocabulary words that we will practice, but WILL NOT be on the spelling test. 😊

       For our first History and Science classes, 2nd & 3rd grade students began learning how to highlight text as we read! We are on the look-out for the BOLD words and the ITALISIZED words! We also learned about the Scientific Method in Science and on Friday we will be designing and testing experimental ways to protect an egg and keep it from breaking! We will analyze out data and draw conclusions next week. 

       In Bible class we learned about the tower of Babel, and how Abram followed God with great faith.  Our Bible memory verse for next week is: The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. Zephaniah 3:17

• Please consider signing up to volunteer to bring a hot lunch or help with a party or event.
• Mrs. Hansen MAY have jury duty for the week of Sept. 28th. She will let you know as soon as she knows if school will have to be closed.  
• The curriculum book fee is due on Wednesday, Sept. 30. You may send in the payment at any time. The 2- day preschool book fee is $100, the 3-day fee $125, and the grade school fee is $250.
• The Harvest Party will be on Wednesday, October 14. Details will be coming soon!
