       We do not have school on Friday, November 6. It is because of Triton’s schedule, but because we will not have the bus that day, we will not have school either. Mrs. Karen and Mrs. Hansen will be working on report cards for the K-3rd grade students anyway, so it is good to have a little extra prep time. 

       The Berry Family has volunteered to bring a hot lunch for K-3rd grades on Friday, November 20th, so please make a note of it on your calendar. We updated the calendar on this webpage to show the change.  

         Our first term ends on Friday, Nov. 20th, so our parent teacher conferences for K-3rd grade students will take place on Monday and Tuesday, November 23 & 24. A Sign-up Genius notice will go out in the next week to all Kindergarten through 3rd grade families to sign up for a conference time. If those dates do not suit you, please contact your child’s teacher to set up an alternate day to meet. 

       School will be closed for Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27.

Mrs. Karen's Class Notes

       It has been another fun-filled week in preschool and kindergarten.  The 3 year olds learned letter Dd and met Dexter Donkey.  The 4 year olds learned letter Tt and met Timmy Tiger.  We continue to learn and review shapes and colors.  Both classes worked on number 4.  In kindergarten, we learned about the consonants /Cc/ and /Dd/ and met Connie Cow and Dexter Donkey.  We continue to sound out consonant-vowel blends with our consonants /t, l, b, n, m, h, s, c, d/ and the vowels.  When working on letter c, we learned that k goes with i and e and c before the other three, a, o, u.  We also learned that some words begin with a vowel such as an, on, in, at, it, and us.  In math, we continue to count numbers 1-20 and pennies and review the ones and teens families.  We continued to write number 6 and practiced writing the teen family numbers.  In language, we worked on alike/different.  We continue to learn the poem "The Woodpecker" by Elizabeth M. Roberts.  In art, we are working on making orange pumpkins using orange glue!  Our Bible story was Elijah.  We know you are the one, true God.  Thank you for showing us how powerful you are through Prophet Elijah!

     Our Ff Bible verse this week was:  Fear not, for I am with thee. Isaiah 43.5

Mrs. Hansen's Class Notes

      Here are the spelling words for the coming week. 

• First Grade words are: be, he, me, by, my, cry, try, go, no, so, one, and two which practice that when e, o, or y is the only vowel at the end of a short word, it usually says it’s long sound.
• The 2nd Grade words are: thrill, throat, scarf, start, lunch, cheese, sport, north, south, frown, grow, germ, serve, surf, most, any, and give which practice the special sounds: thr in three, ar in stars, ch in church, or in morning, ou in out, ow in owl, ow in bowl, er in verse, and ur in nurse. 
• The 3rd Grade words are: pledge, judge, fringe, bridge, smudge, hedge, dodge, plunge, badge, knowledge, wheelbarrow, sunshine, beehive, farmhouse, windmill, haystack, tractor, weathervane, northeast, and southwest which mostly practice that we use dge after a short vowel and ge after a consonant or a long vowel in words that say the j sound.  

       1st grade is making progress in writing cursive and continuing to practice making their printed letters fit the space. 2nd grade is reviewing all of the cursive letters and working on shrinking their writing to make is even smaller and even more neat. 3rd grade is doing a quick review through the cursive letters and they are also using cursive to write other things. They will end up doing more creative writing as we go through the year, too. This new area of practice is called practical penmanship. 😊

       In Bible class we learned about God making a path through the Red Sea so the Children of Israel could escape the Egyptian army. We also read a story from an old devotional book called Stories from Grandma’s Attic. It was about a girl who didn’t obey right away and then she missed out on a fun trip with her aunt and uncle. The story taught us that we should obey even when our parents don’t explain why. We’re going to keep the same Bible memory verse for next week is: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 We’re even learning the song that goes with this verse!
